It sounds simple, but it is advice many seem to forget quickly. If you want to succeed in business, you should always give more.
Give more to your job, to the brand, to your colleagues, to your customers and clients, and, importantly, to yourself.
So, in business, how do you do it?
Do Your Best
How committed are you to your work? I ask my staff this question. Your level of commitment to your work determines your work input.
According to Oprah Winfrey, “Doing your best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”
That means that your efforts in your business or job role now determine the future outcome.
As a business owner or employee, you owe your team, customers, and yourself to always give more. Giving more doesn’t mean you should overwork yourself, as that can end disastrously; giving more in this context means giving your best, or at least trying to do that.
The best way to give more is by putting yourself in the other party’s shoes; that way, you can see what you would hope for and give exceptionally without holding back. Giving refers to delivering excellent service to customers, offering your best at work, assisting your team without being asked, being a good leader – the list goes on and on.
Giving More is a Business Priority
Giving more in a business organisation should be a top priority for everyone involved in providing services. Like I often tell my team, if you have to be given a reason why you should give more, then the business world is no place for you. Giving your best should come naturally, considering that the business’s success strongly depends on your attitude towards it.
When you give more, you:
- Gain customer loyalty: when you perform above expectations, you are sure to make your customers happy. A happy customer is a loyal customer. One loyal customer can get you more customers through referrals, which can help your business’s growth
- Gain the love and respect of your team
- As a leader/business owner, your team will most likely emulate you when you give more
- Create room for more growth and development
Many benefits come with giving more, but these are the essential benefits.
How Do You Give More?
This is easy. All you have to do is:
- be the best version of yourself
- be selfless
- exceed expectations
- do things at the right time
- give yourself all that is needed to be a better you
- know when to ask for support from your team
This list is long and not exhaustive – there are other ways in which you can give more.
Final Words
Do not hold back your abilities.
Holding back your abilities when you know you can do more is unacceptable. Every action has a consequence; consider the outcome of your actions before going through with it.
However, do not lose yourself in the process by offering what is beyond your limit. Be realistic; provide your best.
