Have the challenges of working during the pandemic left you questioning traditional 9 to 5 employment? Launching your own start-up business could be the answer.
I recently wrote about my 10 rules for anyone considering a start-up business. This was because I am hearing from many people who are looking for a change after the challenges – personal and professional – of the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic impact.
It seems people want to ditch the regular 9 to 5 for something more rewarding. However, that’s not always easy. Most don’t know where to start and the thought of spearheading a venture can be daunting.
Your Dream
I won’t go over the 10 rules again as you can read them now. However, whether you’ve always dreamt about starting a restaurant or an accountancy firm, the basic principles behind creating a start-up business are the same. I should know, as I have actually done both.
Stick to these 10 fundamentals and you put yourself in a strong position to be able to achieve great things once you put your mind to it. Here, I hope to give you some more insight into how to ditch the 9 to 5 and turn a vision into a viable venture.
Visualise Success
You need to visualise where you want to be in the next five years, as you must think about tomorrow and not just today.
Start with a solid definition of success itself as, naturally, everybody measures the term in their own way. Perhaps you think it’s all about earning a seven-figure income while someone else might have a more holistic perspective.
Team Work
In any case, the first step for a start-up business is to have a clear vision and never underestimate influence. When it comes to running a business, there’s no such thing as a one-man show and there really isn’t an I in team.
It takes a team to lift a venture off the ground. No matter how talented you are, don’t make the mistake of overestimating your capabilities. Think about it. Do Jack Ma and Mark Zuckerberg burden themselves with all the grunt work? No. They use their influence to find talented individuals who bring their best game to the table and drive the company to success.
Be Confident
One of the reasons even the best business ideas falter is because the owner has reservations about their ability. As an entrepreneur, you need to be confident in yourself and what you’re doing. Why? Because if you can’t convince yourself that your venture is worth it, how can you expect the world to?
Leverage constructive criticism to expand your business’s scope and build a competitive advantage based on unwavering faith and self-belief.
Not Easy
Before you dive into the corporate world, be informed that running a start-up business is no easy feat. Sure, you’ll get to be your own boss, but to be successful you’ll need to fully dedicate yourself, work the weekends, and put in the elbow grease.
Naturally, there will be challenges along the way and overcoming them will require unwavering commitment.
Don’t Give Up
You’re going to hit a few bumps in the road, but, rest assured, even the most successful people on the planet today wouldn’t be where they are if they refused to embrace the difficulties. Tackle the risks head-on and be strategic about the challenges you face. Never ignore your gut! Give yourself the credit of being a good decision maker and pay attention to what your intuition is telling you. When you make the wrong decision, learn from it and again don’t give up!
Proactive
Finally, be proactive and network every chance you get. A great entrepreneur will tell you that half of their job is about making the right relationships, as people are essential to your venture.
Interact with different individuals in your business circle, do favours when possible, and lay the groundwork for potential partnerships. Turning your vision into reality demands the need for you to be as proactive as possible and with the right people around you.
