If you don’t enjoy working, why do it?
You may think it’s easier said than done, but I believe that if you don’t enjoy work on a day-to-day basis, you shouldn’t be doing it.
Your happiness should not come at a cost.
I genuinely enjoy working and I have a passion for what I do. Motivation and dedication have got me to where I am today. Even when I am on holiday, I wake up at 4am because I am driven by my love for my job.
Don’t get me wrong, it can be difficult. But that is how you progress. I want my colleagues to come to work and enjoy what they do for the businesses as an individual and, most importantly, to be themselves.
How can you show you enjoy working?
- Be the best version of yourself and don’t try to be someone else
- Embrace your colleagues’ point of view and build relationships
- Measure your results and progress, not how many hours you have done
- Work smarter, not harder
What shows you don’t enjoy working?
- Isolating yourself from your colleagues
- Being negative. I like to be approachable and help you come up with a solution if there are any problems
- Not allowing yourself to have a break. It’s all about finding a work/life balance.
My parting comment is that you spend one third of your adult life sleeping (unless you’re an insomniac) and another third working (in some cases more than that). That doesn’t give you much time for living.
If you want to make the most of all the time you have, it is imperative that you enjoy what you do. That means you bring an infectious mood to the people around you.
To conclude, Steve Jobs once said:
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”
