For many years, Elon Musk has barely been out of the headlines, and now there is Twitter. From SpaceX to Tesla, Elon has often made the news, and his latest venture has ensured he remains a media favourite.
The Elon Musk Twitter deal was an edge-of-the-seat thriller as the billionaire bid for the social media platform, withdraw, and re-engage, before finally concluding the purchase.
It was a rough start for the entrepreneur, with controversial layoffs, functionality issues, and complaints about his leadership.
Elon Musk, Twitter, and My Views
In the crypto community, it was hoped that the Elon Musk Twitter deal could be beneficial for decentralised finance.
Those of us who believe in blockchain and cryptocurrency as a force for social good, for instance, helping the unbanked, believe the Twitter platform can be fundamental to spreading the positive impact.
Musk is a known enthusiast; look at the Tesla investment in Bitcoin and Musk’s own tweets in support of the memecoin Dogecoin.
However, the stuttering start to the Elon Musk Twitter era has left many of us in the cryptocurrency industry wondering if the potential benefits will ever be realised.
In the hopes that some good can come of Elon’s guardianship of cryptotwitter, I have penned this open letter.
Dear Elon Musk
I am writing to discuss the potential of Twitter and cryptocurrency to positively impact society, particularly in developing nations where access to financial instruments is limited.
As you are well aware, Twitter has become a powerful platform for communication and information sharing, but it can also be a tool for promoting positive change.
One way you could use your influence on Twitter to promote social good is by sharing accurate, accessible, and useful information about DeFi. DeFi is still an emerging field, but its use of blockchain tech to create decentralized financial systems accessible to anyone with an internet connection, regardless of location or economic status, is obvious.
By promoting DeFi on Twitter, you could increase awareness of this technology and encourage more people to get involved. This, in turn, could help promote financial inclusion and reduce the wealth gap by providing access to financial instruments to those currently excluded from the traditional financial system.
Your own involvement in cryptocurrency, particularly your support for Bitcoin and Dogecoin, has already helped to raise awareness of the potential of these digital assets. However, many other cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects focused on social impact could benefit from your attention and support.
For example, projects like MakerDAO and Aave use blockchain technology to create decentralized lending and borrowing platforms accessible to anyone with an internet connection. These platforms could be particularly valuable in developing nations where access to credit is limited and traditional lending institutions are often unaffordable or inaccessible.
By promoting these projects and others like them in the Elon Musk Twitter era, you could increase awareness of the potential of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to promote financial inclusion and social equality.
I urge you to use Twitter to promote the adoption of DeFi and support blockchain projects focused on social impact. With your help, we can create a more inclusive financial system that benefits everyone, regardless of location or economic status.
Thank you for your attention
The Response
And what was the Elon Musk Twitter response? We’ll just have to wait and see!
In the meantime, here are some places you can expand your DeFi knowledge.
DeFi Pulse provides an overview of the current state of the decentralised finance ecosystem, including rankings of the most popular DeFi projects and metrics on total value locked in DeFi protocols.
Ethereum is probably the leading blockchain platform for creating decentralised applications and smart contracts. Many DeFi projects are built on top of the Ethereum blockchain, making it a key player in the DeFi ecosystem.
