Bitcoin has been the most significant coin in the cryptocurrency world. So it is perhaps inevitable that a common question is ‘what’s the new bitcoin going to be?’.

Everyone wants to know what could be the standout cryptocurrency of 2022.
High Demand
When bitcoin launched 13 years ago, few fully believed in it. Many of those who bought it, sold quickly. However, those who held the coin have seen the rewards in value growth.
The popularity and use of cryptocurrency continue to increase, with new coins and tokens arriving all the time.
Some have and continue to succeed, while others have failed. Regardless of the fortunes of new tokens, there’s little doubt that many see crypto as the future.
What’s Next?
The number of coins and tokens gaining rapidly in value often leads to the question, what will be the new bitcoin?
There are many candidates to pick from. Some coins have made early investors millionaires in the very early days.
I’ve conducted my own research and study, and listened to cryptocurrency experts, and everything seems to agree that there will be more growth in the cryptocurrency market.
Like many, I have invested in some coins purely to avoid missing out on the ‘next big thing’.
Why Bitcoin?
Taking on bitcoin is a big ask. So, what are the stats? Bitcoin reached an all-time high of more than $68,000 in November 2021, although it is trading for around $47,000 as I write.
Bitcoin values are a long way from 13 years ago and are likely to remain high. Aside from being one of the first and, undoubtedly, highest-profile cryptocurrencies, the reason for the price increase is simple economics. A fixed limit of bitcoin will ever be in circulation; as demand increases and supply diminishes, the value goes up.
If bitcoin brought you to the crypto party, you will have to pay to get involved. That’s why many are seeking the new bitcoin, to get in at the ground level when prices are low and potential profits high.
The Future?
Based on my research, here are some coins you might like to keep an eye on in 2022.
Ethereum (ETH)
Ethereum is currently the second-largest coin after bitcoin. Launched in 2015, it has been on a steady growth. ETH reached an all-time high of around $4,800 in 2021 is trading for more than $3,400 as I write. For many commentators, Ethereum tops the list of the coins likely to explode soon.
Fantom (FTM)
The Fantom coin is filled with potential. An all-time high of $3.48 was recorded last year and, as I write, is trading for around $1.45. Despite that, the potential benefits of the Fantom blockchain network on which FTM is based – viewed by some as an Ethereum rival – have led many to predict price increases this year.
Solana (SOL)
Pundits have suggested Solana as a coin that could explode in 2022. This is despite the fact that it is trading today for around $124, significantly down on the $260 all-time high achieved last year. In part, the positive attitude is down to how Solana recovered from a 2022 low of $80 at the end of February to today’s prices. It only launched in 2019 and is a popular coin.
Sandbox (SAND)
Sandbox, launched in 2012, is part of the play-to-earn explosion in blockchain technology. Although today’s trading price is around $3.70, SAND took the cryptocurrency world by surprise when it reached $8.44 towards the end of 2021. Many experts suggest it could surprise people again in 2022
Polygon (MATIC)
As I write, the price for this coin is $1.74, some way down from the Polygon all-time high of $2.92 in December. However, the past three months have seen, overall, growth in value and popularity, so MATIC might be one to watch in 2022.
Any of these coins could easily earn the title of the ‘new bitcoin’ in 2022. I have personally invested in some in the hope of not missing out on the next big thing.
